The Bald Truth: Back To My Roots – documentary
August 5th, 2011THE MISSION IS TO PRODUCE A DOCUMENTARY
Hitting our minimum target guarantees we will produce and distribute the programme on DVD for worldwide distribution. It will give us the budget we need to edit the material we have already filmed, author the DVD and invest in stock for a pre-Christmas release.
Any additional revenue raised will go towards additional filming, producing a broadcast version and getting the documentary screened at MIPDOC, the world’s leading TV market held every April in Cannes.
If we do not hit our minimum target of $10,000 (£6,000), the monies raised will still go towards producing the documentary. But the DVD release will be delayed while another round of funding takes place. To produce and market the broadcast version of the programme as well as the DVD, our overall target is a minimum of $35,000 (£21,000) – remember between 4 and 9% of the funds raised go to those brilliant guys at indiegogo.
WHY MAKE THIS DOCUMENTARY?
Like many men – and a growing mumber of women – I wanted to find out about hair transplants because I was losing my hair. I soon realised this was easier said than done. The business of tackling hair loss is a multi-billion dollar industry. But it is also a secretive world full of misinformation, misleading claims and a lack of transparency.
As a documentary film-maker I immediately realised this was a story that had to be told. And what better way to do so than to document my own journey and put myself through the whole process of a hair transplant. The thought of actually going through with surgery was a daunting prospect. But I was inspired by the idea of uncovering the mystery and making a film that would educate and inform other people like myself who wanted to know The Bald Truth.
It took a lot of digging to separate the fact from the fiction and discover the information I was looking for. But when I discovered the incredible advances that have been made at the cutting edge of this industry I immediately went ahead with a series of hair transplants.
THE STORYBOARD
Find out the truth about hair transplants and why the traditional strip replacement surgery endured by the rich and famous for so many years is now considered a “barbaric procedure” that some experts believe should be banned!
In this documentary we will uncover the secrecy that has made it difficult to find out the truth about hair replacement techniques. We will provide a revealing insight into the latest procedure that enables individual hairs to be transplanted non-invasively to create a natural result every time and compare this with the many other options available including the horror stories that have left patients scarred for life.
Two years ago, with the prospect of baldness looming large, I decided the best way to explore this secret world was to consider the options and experience a hair transplant myself. So I set out on a journey to get back to my roots and take the appropriate action to turn back the clock.
We’ll be meeting patients of all ages from around the world who have had hair transplants and find out what they think of their treatment. We were given unrestricted access to film real hair transplants and you will see exactly what is involved – including my own surgery, when I put myself on the operating table and experienced the latest technique that only a few weeks ago was tried out by England’s superstar footballer Wayne Rooney.
WHO IS AFFECTED?
Hair loss is a condition that affects 50 percent of the world’s population. And we’re not just talking about men! It is estimated that 1 in 5 women suffer some form of hair loss.
But many men and women are putting themselves through unnecessary pain and disappointment, while others are suffering permanent scarring because they have been ill-informed and have not been able to find honest, impartial testimonies from real people who have experienced hair transplants.
It is easy for clinics to blind patients with science and show them misleading before and after photographs without explaining the full facts and enabling them to meet real-life cases studies.
For example, many experts believe the old-fashioned strip replacement technique is a barbaric procedure that should be outlawed. But there are still many doctors performing this technique because they lack the skills abd training to adopt the new advances in hair transplants.
By completing this film and making it available for distributiion to a worldwide audience, we will be producing a highly entertaining documentary. But more importantly, this programme will provide an invaluable public service because we have obtained unique access to film surgeries and document the real experiences of a hair transplant patients from around the world.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Help us reach our minimum target and we will produce a documentary for immediate release on DVD that we will distribute worldwide this year via Amazon, Play.com, eBay and other websites including our own .
Anyone who donates a minimum of $30 will get a free copy of the DVD that we will ship anywhere in the world at no additional cost. [See the full list of perks listed for all the benefits on offer]
Take us past our minimum target and you will also be contributing to the broadcast version that we will be pitching to broadcasters in 2012. The amount we raise will determine just how much additional filming we can commit to and the size of the post-production budget that will shape the final edit. If we hit the overall target of $35,000 when we produce the broadcast version we will have the budget to film in Mumbai and LA and tell the story From Bollywood to Hollwood
Since 2009 we have invested our own time and resources filming in London, Paris and Athens. But the money has run out and we need a completion budget to fund additional filming and post-production all the way to the final master edit - so please, please give us your support in any way you can!
Even if we don’t hit out target we will put all the money raised towards completing and pitching the documentary. And we need every penny. Just to screen the documentary in April 2012 at MIPDOC, the world’s biggest documentary market in Cannes, will cost over $1,000.
